Immersive Music and Fiber-Arts Experience, Strings of Life, by Teletextile,
Premieres at La Zona Cultural in San Antonio
This unique music-based theatre experience weaves together the literal and conceptual strings by which we see, hear, and connect.
SAN ANTONIO, TX – [NOVEMBER 4, 2026] – Teletextile will premiere Strings of Life, an immersive, music-based theater experience created and directed by Pamela Martinez at La Zona Cultural in San Antonio on December 10, 2026. Built around an original string quartet composed by Martinez, the work brings together a wide cross-section of artists, technologists, and musicians for a theatrical experience exploring what ties us together. Doors open at 6:00 p.m. and the performance begins at 6:30 p.m., running approximately an hour and a half. The one-night-only performance is free and open to the public.
Audiences will move through indoor and outdoor spaces in La Zona Cultural’s downtown San Antonio footprint, near San Pedro Creek Culture Park. The performance unfolds as a series of short vignettes of music, prose, and dance, with art installations and activities along the path. Live weaving and spinning happen throughout, shaping both the story and the sound, and the night closes with a string quartet playing Martinez’s original score live.
“Strings of Life treats the string as a thread running through everything,” shares Creator Pamela Martinez, “the vibrating strings of harps and violins, the physics of string theory, a storyteller spinning a yarn, the stitches of sewing and knitting, and the woven metal paths of a circuit board. The work draws out the physical and metaphorical ties between making music and making cloth, from looms and spinning wheels to drop spindles. The result is part concert, part gallery, part social history exhibit.”
A San Antonio native, Martinez dedicates the work to the stories carried in the work of our hands. The title nods to the physics of creation and to “Strings of Life,” the landmark 1987 Detroit techno track by Derrick May, released as Rhythim Is Rhythim. Martinez’s piece explores the resonance of objects, instruments reused as sculpture, and repetition in visual form, above all the line: harp strings, stitches, timelines and the heritage held in the work of our hands.

Strings of Life is an interactive performance in which the audience is asked to engage directly with performers, activities, and one another. Attendees will be asked to move through indoor and outdoor spaces. Some areas will be dimly lit, and flashing lights will be used in some areas. Seating is limited. ADA access is available. ABOUT PAMELA MARTINEZ & TELETEXTILE
San Antonio native Pamela Martinez spent her early career as an international touring musician until switching gears and working on Whisperlodge, an immersive theater work that gained international attention including reviews in the New York Times, the Atlantic, and Netflix. After her return to the river city Martinez began blending her musical talents with her ability to create immersive site-specific performing arts and has won numerous grants in support of these ambitious and unique projects. Martinez is a musician in healing, immersive performer and creator, reiki master, and composer specializing in deep listening, sound baths, and sonic expressions with a bachelor’s degree in Music Education from Berklee College of Music in Boston and is currently seeking an MFA in Music Composition from Vermont College of Fine Arts.
Pamela created Teletextile, a cast of rotating collaborators that weaves together a tapestry of music, movement, reiki, and other healing rituals to create a mixture of performance and wellness practice. Martinez has spent the last 20 years working in immersive theater & has collaborated with The Park Ave Armory, REDCAT: Roy and Edna Disney/CalArts Theater, Brooklyn Greenway Initiative, Jamaica Center for Arts and Learning, The Tobin Center, SAY Sí, Trinity University, UTSA, The Parks Foundation, The River Foundation, Jump-Start Performance Co, The McNay Art Museum, Luminaria Contemporary Arts Festival, and Blanton Museum.
